Commedia dell'arte (Italian for "comedy of professional artists") was an early form of professional theatre that flourished in Europe from the 16th to the 18th centuries. It was known for its improvised performances based on pre-written scenarios, the use of stock characters, and significant amounts of physical comedy. At Western, we have a tradition of exploring this form of theatre every few years, finding the importance of the basics of the art form of theatre.
